With a score of 97 at Pinehurst No. 6 Tuesday afternoon, Scotland junior golfer Ashley Barringer punched her ticket to the state championships next week.

Barringer was the only Scotland varsity golf member to earn a championship berth on a course that was tailored to be more difficult all-around for conference competitors.

“The course was very tough,” said Scotland varsity coach Gary Barfield. “Scores were up for everybody, because it was lot longer of a course set up than the regular season.”

In order to qualify for the state tournament, players had to shoot a 98 or better. Scotland senior Kaylan Ganus just barely missed the cut, shooting a 99 which was good for second on the Fighting Scots.

The 4A Central regional championship saw eight combined players from the Southeastern Conference make the state championship, with Pinecrest’s Gabby Weiss finishing first in the region by shooting a 73 at Pinehurst. Four of the eight players that qualified came from the Patriots, who finished first overall in the conference during the regular season.

4A Central regional championship Scotland scores:

Ashley Barringer 97

Kaylan Ganus 99

Gabby Gualtieri 103

Caitlin McCormick 108

Alison Critcher 108
