Events to treat yourself to

There is plenty to see and do this Halloween in Scotland County.

Here is a short list of some of the local events between now and Oct. 31:

Beginning on Thursday and running until Saturday, ENCORE! Theatre, Inc. will present the musical — A Night at the Wax Museum. Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. It will be performed at Avinger Auditorium on the St. Andrews Campus. The play will be performed at 7 p.m nightly and on Saturday there is a 2 p.m. matinee. Tickets are $8 for children through high school; $10 for seniors and $12 adults. Call 384-4516 for information.

On Saturday, Partners in Ministry will host “Fall Festival” from 6-8 p.m. at the old East Laurinburg School. Activities will include: Face painting, hay stack find, candy corn count, mystery box game, pumpkin bean bag toss, a bake sale and more. Food will include candy apples, corn dogs, popcorn, snacks and drinks.

Beginning Saturday until Oct. 30, there is a Halloween maze called Shady Acres at 11400 Academy Road in Laurinburg, behind Lighthouse International. Blackout Productions is organizing the event, which will also be open Oct. 28-30, from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Those bringing at least four nonperishable food items, will get $2 off the ticket price. Proceeds to help Scotland County Relay for Life and Scotland County Feed the Hungry program. On Oct. 30, a trunk or treat event will take place at St. John UMC for local children from 5-7 p.m. A local fire truck will be on hand for children to enjoy.

On Oct. 31, there is also trunk or treat sponsored by Laurinburg Church of the Nazarene will take place from 5-7:30 p.m. There will be hot dogs, games, music, prizes and candy.

According to Laurinburg Police Chief John Evans, trick or treating for children 12 and under will be held in Laurinburg on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. If you have any questions, call the Police Department at 276-3211.
