Cori Newton pitched five innings of one hit baseball, striking out eight as the Scotland JV softball team pummeled Pine Forest, 10-0 Tuesday afternoon.

The Scots led 3-0 going into the fifth when, after finally timing the opposing pitcher's change up, they broke the game wide open with a seven run frame.

"In the fifth inning, after me fussing for four innings, we finally started hitting the change up by holding our hands back and sitting on the pitch," said SHS head coach Joel McCanna after the game.

Scotland batters stuffed the stats sheet on Tuesday, with Sarah Cross (3-for-4, 3 runs), Tiffani Sessoms (2-for-3, 3 runs), Ashley Paolozzi (2-for-3, 1 run) and Paige Butler (3-for-3, 1 run) leading the charge against Pine Forest.

The hits were clean and the runs deserved for the Scots, as neither side issued a walk on the game.

"Pine Forest is one of the better teams we have played," commented McCanna.

Scotland will be facing a quick turnaround as they are scheduled to take on Lumberton at home tomorrow afternoon.

McCanna expects that the back-to-back games will prove an early test of his team's will.

The game against the Pirates is scheduled for 5 p.m.
