ROCKINGHAM — The Scotland ninth-grade baseball team got a strong pitching performance from Logan Weagraff in a season-opening 8-2 win against Richmond Gold on Monday.

Weagraff went the distance, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, three walks and three hit batters. Weagraff also struck out six.

Kwashawn Quick was 3-for-3 with a run scored, Casion Murphy went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Johnny Mintz hit a triple and scored a run for Scotland.

"We started out hitting the ball well," said SHS head coach David Barnes. "I'm always going to run the bases aggressively, and we did that.

"It helped us score a few more runs than we might have normally."

Scotland hosts Richmond Green on Thursday at 5 p.m.
