The JV Scots are now 2-0. Trevor Shampy started Friday's game and pitched 4 2/3 innings to get the win. Buddy Oxendine worked the final 2 1/3 to get the save. Oxendine entered with two outs, the bases loaded and his team leading 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth, and he got a strikeout to get his team out of the jam.
Johnny Mintz was 4-for-5 with five RBIs to lead the Scotland offense. Oxendine went 4-for-6 with three RBIs, and Derek Barnes was 3-for-5.
Scotland scored six runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead by eight runs, but Swett rallied, scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh before making an out. SHS head coach Michael Sellers said that the Rams had six hits on 0-and-2 counts, and that the game ended with the tying run on third.
"It's one of those deals where you feel comfortable, everything's under control, and all of a sudden ... I told our guys that they have to keep their composure in a situation like that," said Sellers. "We gave them hope and they ran with it, but we got the win, and you can't be unhappy when you win the game."
The JV Scots play at Pine Forest on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
