Kenneth Steven "Jimmy" Mayo, 61, of 8141 McQueen Road, Laurinburg died Sunday, March 1 at his home.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel officiated by the Rev. Randy Jackson. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hourihan Mayo; two sons, Mitchell Mayo of Laurinburg and Joseph Mayo of Point Pleasant, N.J.; a daughter, Michelle Slocum of Laurinburg; a brother, Howard Donovan of Laurinburg; two sisters, Phyllis Fielder of Lawndale, Calif. and Cathel Tanner of Magnolia, Del.; and eight grandchildren, Jeremiah, Cheyenne, Cody, Tabitha, Joshua, Leanza, Melody, and Benjamin.
Born May 3, 1947 in the Bronx, N.Y., he was a son of the late Paul and Nellie White Mayo. He served 18 months in Vietnam with the U.S. Army and later was vice-president for Jayden Construction/Denholtz Associates in New Jersey.

William James “Bill” Miller
Mr. William James “Bill” Miller, 82, of Laurinburg, died Saturday, Feb. 28 in Hilton Head, S.C.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church officiated by the Revs. Ralph Brown and Roy McCook. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Pierce Miller; a daughter, Melanie M. Pracht and husband, Matt of Laurinburg; a grandson, Mark Pracht of Laurinburg.
Born August 5, 1926 in Butler, Pa., he was a son of the late William O. and Alice Brewster Miller. He served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, and later graduated from Slippery Rock College and received his Masters from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a retired teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools.
Bill was also a former volunteer fireman with the Munhall #4 Fire Company with over 50 years of service, was a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club, and worked with the George I. Green Funeral Home after his retirement.

Dorothy Mae Port, 81, of 1000 Johns Road, Laurinburg, died Monday, March 2, 2009 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. She was a devoted member of Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served for many years.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church in Laurinburg, The Rev. Gary Wilson and the Rev. Woody Byrd will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park in Laurinburg. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Ms. Port was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie H. Port; her parents, James Lewis Brigman and Katie Mae Brigman; one son, Tommie Dale Port; two brothers, Malcolm (Sonny Boy) Brigman and Buck Brigman; and two sisters, Lois B. Davis and Mable Jackson Martin.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Crews of Laurinburg; one daughter, Martha Stubbs of Monroe; and one grandson, Jackson Hyatt of Laurinburg.
