Jeanne Pittman Griffin, 83, of Laurinburg passed away on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Gene Tyson.

She was a 1951 graduate of Elon University and obtained her master’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and was a Tar Heel through and through. She taught physical education at Elon for 13 years before moving to Laurinburg and teaching in the Scotland County Public Schools until an unfortunate automobile accident in 1978.

She regularly attended UNC football and basketball games and held season tickets for 44 years. She was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church and volunteered in the church office, serving with the JOY Club and the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her son Charles “Buster” Griffin of the home and grandson Stephen Forgiel. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Toby” Griffin and daughter Karla Forgiel.

McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium is serving the family.
