Dr. Raymanda El Khoury, board certified internal medicine physician, has joined the staff of Scotland Medical Center. She comes to the practice and to Laurinburg from a recently completed fellowship in nephrology at Wake Forest School of Medicine.

El Khoury provides general medicine to adult patients for common illnesses and chronic diseases, histories and physicals, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies and lab tests, consulting, education, diagnoses and kidney care and dialysis.

Upon earning a medical degree from Lebanese University in Beirut, Lebanon, El Khoury left family and friends in Lebanon to come to the United States to complete a residency program at East Tennessee University.

“I always loved biology and I love helping people. I enjoy the fact that I can actually change someone’s life or at least make a difference in their life. Even if I can’t cure someone I want to be there for them to provide whatever assistance or comfort that I can as a physician. I think that’s the most important part of what we physicians do, more so than just making them well,” El Khoury said.

This summer El Khoury completed a nephrology fellowship at Wake Forest School of Medicine. “I wanted to specialize in nephrology because a mentor I had in my residency had a great impact on me and encouraged me to specialize in it. “

El Khoury says though she has no family in the United States she has made many friends here. ”Through my residency program and fellowship I feel I know a great many people here. I love living in the United States because the people here are so genuinely caring and kindhearted.”

El Khoury is engaged to a mechanical engineer, who currently resides in Texas. “We plan to marry at a later date,” she said.
