Maxton woman injured in assault

A 22-year-old Maxton woman reported injuries following a dispute, according to a sheriff’s report.

Angela Locklear, of L&D Road, told deputies that an acquaintance came to her home on Saturday around 2 a.m. and an argument began. The report said the man beat and kicked Locklear, shoved her in a closet and continued to beat her with a belt, vacuum cleaner, and a shoe rack. The man then snatched Locklear’s phone cords and left, the report said.

Locklear suffered severe bruising about the body and face, including an eye that was swollen shut, according to the report.

Man arrested for FTA for a felony hearing

A Maxton man is in jail after skipping his court date, according to a sheriff's report.

The report said 31-year old Donnie Davis Bethea, of Oxendine School Road, was arrested Wednesday for failing to appear in court.

Records show Oxendine was supposed to appear in court on Jan. 28 for assault causing serious bodily injury. The warrant was taken out Feb. 2.

Bethea has a new court date on March 23.

The report listed his bond at $20,000.

Daycare target of B&E

Deputies received a report of a breaing and entering at a Laurinburg daycare.

An employee of Precious Care Child Development and Education Center reported the the Sheriff's office that someone had forced open a door and entered the property at 16960 Wagram Road.

The only item listed on the report as stolen was a Dell desktop computer, valued at $800.

McColl woman charged with assault, trespassing

A McColl woman is charged with an assault that occurred in September, according to a Sheriff's report.

Daniel L. Grooms, 41, of North Church Street, is charged with simple assault and trespassing. She was released on a written promise.

Deputies also served a warrant on Grooms husband, 42-year old Jennings Groom, Jr.

He was arrested and placed in Scotland County jail under a $5,000 bond.

It was not clear from the report why he was arrested.

Local man target of identity theft

A retired Laurinburg man was the target of identity theft, according to a sheriff's report.

The report said that an "unknown subject duplicated bank routing numbers to create checks."

The identity thief allegedly wrote $2,181.13 in counterfeit checks.

The report did not indicate if an arrest had been made.

Fayetteville man arrested for child support

Deputies arrested a 46-year old Fayetteville man as an deadbeat dad, according to a sheriff's report.

The report said Luis A. Rivera, of Winthrop Driver, is charged with failing to appear for a court hearing on child support.

Rivera owes $15,319 in child support in Scotland County, according to the report.

Air conditioning units damaged

A business in Gibson reported air conditioning units damaged by thieves, according to a Sheriff's report.

A representative of Scottish Food Systems, Inc. reported to sheriff's deputies that a property they own on Main Street had two air conditioning damaged when people removed parts, the report said.

The report listed the units as being valued at $5,000 a piece.

$400 reported stolen from register

A store reported to deputies that someone took money from its register.

County Line Store, located at 1482 Highway 71 North in Maxton reported that someone stole $400 from the register.

The report said that a customer allegedly leaned across the counter and took the money from the register.

Golf Cart reported stolen

An electric golf cart was reported stolen from a residence on Rockingham Road in Laurel Hill, according to a Sheriff's report.

The cart, a green 1996 EZ-GO, was valued at $5,000 on the report.
