A police officer, whose name has not been released, was shot and killed this morning at a service station in Lumberton.

According to The Robesonian newspaper, the shooting occurred at the Fayetteville Road Shell service station off Interstate 95.

The sources told The Robesonian that the officer, who was off duty, was shot while attempting to serve a warrant.

About 20 to 25 deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office responded, Sheriff Kenneth Sealey said. Lumberton police officers and agents from the State Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded.
