Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by the Rev. J.W. Williams and the Rev. Woody Byrd. Burial will follow at Peele’s Chapel Cemetery.
Billy was born on Oct. 15, 1939 in Marlboro County, S.C, son of the late Everette Livingston Herndon and Anne Wallace Herndon. He was a veteran who served proudly with the U.S. Navy. He worked as the produce manager with Harris Teeter, retiring after many years of dedicated service. He was a longtime faithful member of the Peele’s Chapel Wesleyan Church. Billy never met a stranger and always took the time to talk with others. Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
He is survived by his wife Jane Johnson Herndon of their home, sons Rodney E. Herndon of Hamlet and James W. Webster of Cherryville, his daughter Lisa A. Potter of Hamlet, sisters Shirley H. Locklear of Laurinburg, Peggy Smith of Hesperia, Calif., and Faye Warren and husband Bill of Greer, S.C., seven grandchildren: Samantha Jo Montgomery, Justin Everette Herndon, Susie Rachelle Vacheresse, Ashley Clark, Austin Webster, Dylan Webster, and Jacob Webster, great-grandson Benjamin Carter Hailey, many nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made in memory of Mr. Herndon to Peele’s Chapel Wesleyan Church, 20781 McEachin Road, Laurel Hill, NC 28351.
