"We are going to try something we haven't in the past," City Manager Craig Honeycuttsaid. "Generally, during public input sessions, you get input from the public - you generally don't get a chance to discuss all of the issues they bring up."
"City council said that we need to respond back. Citizens took their time to come in and give them their ideas so we need to respond back," Honeycutt said.
The meeting is open to the public.
Honeycutt said that the city sent copies of the responses to city residents who attended the public input session.
He added that some of the items were deemed infeasible at this time, generally from budget restraints.
The city plans to respond to all concerns.
The issues discussed at the public input session included paving and repairing roads and sidewalks, beautifying different areas of the city, economic and retail recruitment and taking advantage of the Base Realignment and Closure that is expected to bring tens of thousands of people to Fort Bragg and surrounding areas.
Several ideas to be discussed tonight are:
- Widening US 401 to a four-lane road from Fayetteville to McColl.
- Blind spots along several major city streets from foliage.
- Using the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport to recruit military-related businesses.
- Repairing sidewalks.
- Working to make the city grow.
