Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Noland Memorial United Methodist Church in Newport News, Va., officiated by the Rev. Jenny Day and Dr. Charles Root. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
She was born in Camden, S.C., lived in several areas throughout North Carolina during her childhood, and graduated from high school in Laurinburg. She had been a resident of Newport News since 1960.
She was an active member of Noland Memorial United Methodist Church where she served as a past lay leader and as president of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years Wade Gibson, daughters Donna Gilland and husband Kerry of Newport News and Sharon Conti and husband Richard of Toano, Va., son David Gibson and wife Cindy of Newport News, sisters Louise Jackson of Laurinburg and Daisy Hardee of Florence, S.C., and five grandchildren: Courtney and Collin Gilland, Spencer and Bryce Conti, and Nicholas Gibson.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News.
