And what birthday party would be complete without a cake?
The twist with this particular party, however, was that the host was also the honoree. The faculty and students, along with a number of guests gathered to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the school’s opening.
“This is one of the most special places to be,” said former principal Sara Hunter, who oversaw the move from the old Laurel Hill School, which opened in 1923, to the new building 10 years ago. “The teachers, staff, students and the Laurel Hill community make this a truly amazing place.”
Providing party entertainment were kindergartners Martez Ellerbe, Jaheim Hale and Chandler Simms singing a stirring rendition of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee”, the Laurel Hill Show Choir featuring Hannah Gilliland, Jasmine Jessie and Alyssa Pearson singing “Part of Your World” and “Candle in the Water.” Barbara Nassif read a Laurel Hill fairy tale before the entire assemble group sang “Happy Birthday”.
“We really wanted to acknowledge the teachers who have been here since we moved into the new school and the community here in Laurel Hill who have been so supportive of our school and our students,” said Laurel Hill Principal Cindy Goodman.
