Police arrested a 19-year old Hoke County man last week for allegedly breaking into Bella Luna and Scotland Civic Center.

Sean Paul Barnes, of John Russell Road in Raeford, was caught outside of the Scotland Place Civic Center at 1210 Turnpike Road in Laurinburg, after police responded to a breaking and entering in progress call.

According to the police report, when officers arrived, they noticed someone inside the building and then saw the individual running toward the back entrance. Officers moved to intercept while the person ran out the front, according to the report.

Officers used K-9 units to search the woods, eventually using thermal imaging to locate Barnes laying in the woods.

Barnes allegedly took a Lenovo Think Center computer, valued at $500, a Gateway E Series computer, valued at $400, 2 HP printers valued at $200, a Dell monitor valued at $150, an Iomega removable CD-RW drive, valued at $100, a Linksys Wireless-G valued at $100 and a Kodak digital camera valued at $75.

The report indicates that several of these items were recovered, but it is unclear which items were recovered and which ones were not.

Barnes was charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of burglary tools.

Detective Brian Gibson, of the Laurinburg Police Department, said Barnes was also wanted in connection with the Bella Luna burglary from Jan. 12.

Gibson said that information had come from the Fayetteville Police Department that Barnes was believed to be trying to sell a TV that came from the Italian restaurant.

The Bella Luna robbery netted over $10,000 in electronics, alcohol and cash, according to an earlier report.

Barnes was charged with breaking and entering and larceny in the Bella Luna case.

Gibson said that Barnes had confessed to both burglaries.

Barnes was placed in Scotland County jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

State records indicate Barnes was on probation in Hoke County for breaking and entering, larceny and possessing stolen items.

Records also show that Barnes is charged in Cumberland County with carrying a concealed weapon and in Hoke County with four counts of felony breaking and entering into a motor vehicle and two counts of felony larceny.

Law enforcement officials say that break-ins are on the rise, probably from rising unemployment in the county.
