Feb. 7
Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Zion Faith Center in Hamlet will host the first Rockingham District Pastor of the Year awards program beginning at 6 p.m. A fashion show and performance by a comedian will be the entertainment. A ticket donation of $5 will be accepted. Tickets may be purchased at any A.M.E. Zion Church. Professional photographs will be taken.
A Bluegrass and Gospel Singing will be held at 6 p.m. at the Laurel Hill Community Center featuring Mike Outlaw and Friends, Kim Dennison, Betty Odom, Sylvia Polston, Ralph Kersey and more. Admission is free. A love offering will be taken. Hot dogs, drinks and desserts will be on sale. Sand Hills Community Church will sponsor the event.
Feb. 8
The charity committee of Laurel Hill First Baptist Church will sponsor an old fashioned play entitled “Look Where He Brought Me From” beginning at 3 p.m. at the church. Everyone is invited.
The Nazareth Church Family will hold a “100 Women in Red” program at 3 p.m. This program is sponsored by the Secret Sisters Ministry of Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church in Wagram. Minister Stella Eden from Center Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Red Springs will be the guest speaker. The public is invited.
Laurel Hill First Baptist Church will celebrate their church anniversary at 11 a.m. At 3 p.m., the play "Look Where He Brought Me From" will be performed. The public is invited.
Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church in Wagram will celebrate Black History Month by saluting its local pioneers, who will be recognized and asked to worship at Nazareth for the 11 a.m. service.
Livingston Chapel Missionary Baptist Church on Hwy. 381 South invite everyone to attend the anniversary and appreciation services for Pastor J.J. Covington as he celebrates 45 years as pastor of Livingston Chapel and 59 years in the ministry. Services will begin with Sunday school at 10 a.m., morning worship at 11, and dinner served with a 3 p.m. service to follow with the Rev. St. Matthews Church will celebrate their 38th Wee Miss Valentine pageant at 4 p.m. Six little girls will compete be queen. Door prizes and cash prizes will be given. The Macedonia Church Youth Choir of Laurinburg will present music and the Sanit Matthews Step Team will perform. Everyone is invited.
Nashville Missionary Baptist Church will hold their annual Black History program at 4 p.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. George McDougald, Jr. along with the Cool Spring Male Choir and congregation. All are invited.
Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church will have a Women in White program at 3:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Evangelist Mary Ellis of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Syrian Missionary Baptist Church of Adamsville Road in McColl, S.C. will hold a Black History program at 4 p.m. The speaker will be the Rev. Kay F. Peterkin, associate minister and first lady of the church. A special presentation of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech will be recited from memory by Mr. Willie J. Peterkin of Fletcher Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Laurinburg. The public is invited to attend.

Angel Food Ministries' food orders will be taken on Feb. 11 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Feb. 12 from 9 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Stewartsville Baptist Church, 10401 Hwy. 401 S. in Laurinburg. Please go to the office at the back of the church to place an order.
Distribution will be Feb. 21 from 12 to 1 p.m.
Orders must be paid for in advance with cash or food stamps. The cost is $30 for a box (includes 17 items of meats, vegetables, etc.) with a value of $60-$65. Each month there is a new menu. There is no purchase limit for Angel Food and no applications or qualifications necessary to purchase. The food program is being offered as a ministry to the community. Spring Hill Baptist Church will observe Black History Month at 3 p.m. with guest speaker the Rev. Ruby Lennon of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Laurinburg with the Westminster choir and congregation. The public in invited.
Solid Rock Baptist Church will host a gospel extravaganza sponsored by the Mitchel and Jackson families in memory of Mrs. Sarah L. Jackson at 4 p.m. The New Beginning Gospel Choir of Raleigh, the P.S.D. Singers and many more will perform. All are invited.

Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church in Wagram will celebrate Black History Month by acknowledging the Nazareth Rising Pioneers as they celebrate with youth. Former Chief Robert Malloy will bring the 11 a.m. message. Members and guests are asked to wear African Attire or old fashioned clothes. An old-fashioned dinner will be served immediately after morning service. At 3 p.m. the congregation will celebrate their heritage with the Imani Gospel Choir of Scotland High School, with Laurel Hill First Baptist Church and their play "Look Where He Brought Us From", and with Scotland County's own famous storyteller Tyris Jones.
Bright Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church Black History Celebration will be Sunday, February 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. The theme is “How We Got Over”. Entertainment will be provided by storytellers and the Scotland High School Gospel Choir. The public is invited to attend.

St. David's Episcopal Church will have its annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Hot pancakes, steamed apples and sausage will be served. Plates are $5.
March 6
Gibson Pentecostal Holiness Church will have their annual barbecue and chicken plate sale from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Plates are $6, eat in or carry out. Deliveries are available for five plates or more. The menu will be pork barbecue, fried chicken, cloe slaw, baked beans, string beans, potato salad, hush puppies, rolls and tea.
