The Scotland County Literacy Council, in conjunction with the Laurinburg Employment Security Commission office, will be conducting a workshop titled "Maintaining Personal Effectiveness in Critical Times" from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday at the Scotland County Annex Building at 231 East Cronly Street.

The workshop is for people who are out of work or afraid they may lose their job.

The speaker will be Burnest Graham, the long-time manager of ESC.

Topics will include maintaining your role in your family while unemployed, avoiding the "valley of slow and no return" and marketing yourself.

The workshop is free.

For information, contact Mark Gretch, director of the Scotland county Literacy Council, at 276-7007.
