Approximately 80 supporters of Scotland Memorial Foundation gathered at the WR Dulin Conference Center at Scotland Memorial Hospital last week for the 7th annual Highland Society Dinner.

The Highland Society was created in 2002 by Scotland Memorial Foundation to thank and recognize those exceptional donors who make generous contributions to Scotland Memorial Foundation of at least $1,000 in a calendar year. This level of generosity allows the Foundation to support Scotland Memorial Hospital in accomplishing its mission of offering quality, compassionate care - one patient at a time.

Serving as Master of Ceremonies was Guy McCook, the 2008 Chair of the Highland Society. He stated, “Each year, we are humbled by the fact that even in the tough economic times we have experienced in our community, region and nation, the number of donors who support the Foundation at this extraordinary level continues to grow. This evening is meant as a time of fellowship and appreciation of your generosity.” In 2008, the Highland Society consisted of 107 donors.

Special recognition was given during the evening to members of the Skye Club. To reach the Skye Club level Foundation donors must have given at least $25,000 since the year 2000. These members receive lifetime membership in the Highland Society. There were 23 Skye Club members in 2008, including two new members inducted at the meeting: Butler Manufacturing and Nic’s Pic Kwik. Guy McCook accepted the award for Butler Manufacturing and Ken and Carol Nichols accepted the award for Nic’s Pic Kwik.

Attendees were provided with updates on the Foundation and the Health Care System’s special projects, programs, and challenges. Speakers for the evening included Steve Wallace, the Foundation’s Executive Director; Guy McCook, 2008 Highland Society Chair, Joyce McDow, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees; Greg Wood, President and CEO of Scotland Health Care System, and 2009 Highland Society Chair Kirsten Dean. Other distinguished guests included the Honorable Judge John Horne and Scotland County Commissioner J.D. Willis.
