Man charged with assault with a deadly weapon

A Gibson man was arrested Friday for allegedly firing a gun at people during the first week of January, according to a sheriff's report.

The report said that 23-year old John Phillip Pearson, of St. Johns Road, is charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied property and assault with a deadly weapon.

A second report added felony larceny, misdemeanor larceny and a second charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

Pearson was placed in Scotland County jail under a $40,000 secured bond.

State records indicate Pearson had previously served a year and three months in prison for several drug-related charges.

Alleged armed robber in custody

Deputies arrested a 29-year old New Yorker for robbing someone at gunpoint, according to a report.

Brandon James Christian, of Marion Street, Brooklyn, is charged with robbery with a deadly weapon and second-degree kidnapping, the report said.

He was placed in Scotland County jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

The report listed the complainant as Lamont Mainly of Church Street in Gibson.

Laurinburg man resists arrest

Authorities say a 24-year Laurinburg man resisted officers when they were arresting him for drugs and possession of a weapon.

Colen Akbar Jones, of Isabela Street, was arrested on the ocorner of Biggs Street and Railroad Street in Laurinburg and charged with destruction of evidence, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, possession or concealment of a weapon and resisting arrest, according to a Sheriff's report.

The report said Jones was placed in Scotland County jail under a $25,000 secured bond.

Jones was listed as having a knife in the report.

Man's car set on fire

Someone set fire to a Laurinburg man's car, according to police report.

Louise Monroe Dunlap, of Warren Avenue in Laurinburg, called fire and police officials on Wednesday morning to report that her boyfriend's car was on fire, according to the report.

When police arrived on the scene, the noticed that the rear-right door to the grey 1989 Toyota Camry was open, the report said.

The car belongs to David Breeden, of Aberdeen Road.

Two arrested for disorderly conduct

Two men were removed from court last week for disorderly conduct, according to a sheriff's report.

According to the report, 22-year old Jonathan Allen Bryant, of Executive Park Road in Laurinburg, and 25-year old Brandon Travis Prevatt, of Rosemary Lane in Laurinburg, were removed from Courtroom #2 after "engaging in conflict" and "aggressive type behavior."

Both men were placed in Scotland County jail under a $2,000 secured bond and were both found in contempt, according to the report.

The report did not say why the pair were in court.

Bryant and Prevatt are both familiar faces to the criminal justice system,a according to state records.

Bryant had previously served eight months in prison for larceny of over $1,000 and Prevatt was placed on probation for wanton injury to a person or property and for resisting arrest, according to records.

Man arrested as "deadbeat" dad

Deputies arrested an alleged deadbeat dad from Maxton, according to a Sheriff's report.

According to the report, 56-year old Allen Bethea, of East Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, was taken into custody after failing to appear in court for missing child support payments.

Bethea allegedly owed $11,314 in child support.

Laurinburg man arrested for assault, larceny

Deputies arrested a 30-year old Laurinburg man after a traffic stop, according to a sheriff's report.

The report said that David Thomas Goins, of Kayla Drive, is charged with assault on a female, misdemeanor larceny and driving without a license.

Goins was placed in Scotland County jail under a $4,000 secured bond, according to the report.

Four-wheeler, electronics stolen

A four-wheeler was stolen from a Maxton home on Wednesday, according to a Robeson County Sheriff’s report.

The report said that David Bledsoe, of Revels Road, reported the theft at about 6:30 a.m. when he also found missing a Dell computer and a Playstation 2 game system.

The report valued the items at $8,900.

Burglar makes off with guns

Several firearms were taken from a home on Pearson Road in Maxton Wednesday, according to a Robeson County Sheriff's report.

William Bullard, 37, told deputies at about 7 p.m. that someone had entered his home through a back door and stole seven guns and about $200 in loose change.

The report listed the value of the guns at $2,800.
