On Saturday, the Laurinburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will sponsor its 14th Jabberwock Pageant.

Held every other year, the pageant awards scholarships to its contestants, who compete in modeling gowns and in various talents such as singing, praise dancing, and public speaking.

This year’s six contestants are Scotland High senior Brittane Pankey, Scotland High School sophomore Cierra McMillan, Scotland High School junior Dee-Ajra Harris, Scotland High School junior Julie McKenzie, Scotland High School senior Shatoria Covington, and Red Springs High School junior Jessica Williams. The pageant will be judged by Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church pastor B.J. Gibson, Richmond County educator Betty Roberts, and Davina Malloy Deberry.

Mime groups from Galilee United Methodist Church in Laurinburg and First Baptist Church in Bladenboro will also perform, along with Laurinburg’s Voices of Unity.

The program will begin at 6 p.m. at The Highlands. The event is free.
