Westover — the defending 4-A state champs — improve to 13-2 overall and are a perfect 7-0 in the M-SEC. Scotland slides to 12-4 overall and 5-3 in league play.
Brigman also had three assists, four steals and five rebounds. Her 31 points nearly equal the team's total from the last time these two teams met; the Scots lost 50-36 during their first meeting with the defending champs in Laurinburg on Dec. 12.
Shayla McEachern had 14 points, 10 assists and five rebounds for SHS. Brittany Dockery scored 11 points, Brittany Gibson scored a career-high nine and Alexis McNeil had seven points. Bridgette Dockery and Jessi Newton scored four apiece.
Scotland led 18-16 after one quarter and trailed just 33-31 at the half. The Scots fell behind 64-53 heading into the final period, but made it close at the end.
"We battled back and got it down to four with a minute left," said SHS head coach David Johnson. "We got a steal and came down and missed the lay-up, and we had to foul from there.
"The girls battled and I was proud of them. I told them in the locker room that we'll see this team again."
Johnson hopes his team can cut down on its turnovers if the Lady Scots get a third crack at the Wolverines in the M-SEC Tournament.
"We had a lot of turnovers that led to transition baskets for them," said Johnson. "I told them if we're going to have turnovers, they have got to be dead-ball turnovers, and that didn't happen in the third quarter (Scots outscored 29-22 in the third)."
