SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The St. Andrews Presbyterian College wrestling team picked up its first win of the season, defeating host Spartanburg Methodist College, 27-25, on Wednesday evening.

The Knights improved to 1-6 on the season heading into the East Coast Duals, which SAPC will host beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. The tournament will feature 13 teams from the East Region wrestling in 25 dual matches.

St. Andrews' Matt Fletcher pinned SMC's Lucas Wingo in the third period of the 125-pound match to give the Knights a 6-0 lead. A major decision loss at 133 by Casey Gashaw helped Spartanburg Methodist cut the lead to 6-4.

Dan Butcher (149) pinned SMC's Ricky Moore in the second period, and St. Andrews' Brad McKee pinned Dennis Wooten in the first period to give the Knights an 18-4 advantage.

Troy Baranik (157) lost an 8-4 decision to SMC's Tyler McElhene, but a win via decision by Greg Todd over Spartanburg Methodist's Drew McElrath at 165 put the Knights up 21-7.

The match was over at that point. St. Andrews would forfeit three of the final four weight classes, but still won 27-25. Spartanburg Methodist forfeited at 184.
