Eight young women will compete for the Miss UNCP 2009 crown on Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Givens Performing Arts Center.

The Miss UNCP Scholarship Pageant will also be the farewell to Miss UNCP 2008 Jamee Hunt.

The pageant includes competitions in interview, on-stage question, evening wear, swimsuit and talent. Mistress of Ceremonies is Amanda Watson, Miss North Carolina 2008, and Master of Ceremonies is Gary Strickland, Jr.

The 2009 Miss UNCP will receive a $1,000 scholarship, free housing for one year and a $1,000 wardrobe allowance to compete in the Miss North Carolina Pageant. First runner-up receives a $500 scholarship; second runner-up, $300, and third runner-up, $200.

Additional entertainment during the pageant will be provided by the 2008 UNCP Idol Preston Siler, Miss UNCP Outstanding Teen Brianna Hunt, Miss UNCP Carolina Princess Haley Oxendine and Miss UNCP Outstanding Teen Carolina Princess Shayla Hunt.
