The Laurinburg Chamber of Commerce is still looking for attendees for its special planning session next weekend.

The two-day session begins Friday at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside in Wilmington.

According to Chamber of Commerce President Theresa Lamson, members will focus on the economic development for the county and what the role the chamber will have in the upcoming year.

Members will establish " ... what we can do to move the county along," Lamson said, "and develop a plan with an awareness for the community."

Last year's session was held in Laurinburg, but chamber officials decided leaving town might be more productive.

"It's not that we don't support our local community. We are just trying to get people focused, and to build camaraderie," chairman Allen McLaurin said. In the past the meeting has been held at Wrightsville and Sunset beaches, and the decision to have this year's in Wilmington was done because "it's hard to get a commitment (from attendees) when you're in Laurinburg."

McLaurin said in the past, chamber members have been distracted by family and business concerns when the session have remained in town.

"By going out of town the group can "go out to supper together, and (not) have to worry about having to get back because the kids are coming home from school."

The cost is $109 per night plus tax and valet parking. Meals are included except the one dinner on your own.

For information, call the chamber at 276-7420 or e-mail kbuie@laurinburgchamber.com.To book your room, call (888) 324-8170.
