For those who both love children and have thought about owning their own business, an upcoming workshop to be held in Robeson County may be for you.

On Feb. 10, an all day seminar offered through Child Care Directions in Lumberton will take place that is designed to give participants the ability “to make an informed decision about opening a family childcare business”, according to Sandy Carter, executive director of Child Care Directions in Laurinburg.

“Anyone interested in keeping children would benefit from the knowledge gained at this event,” Carter said.

The law states that anyone keeping more than two children not related to them must be licensed by the Division of Child Development. According to Carter, the workshop will teach prospective child care center operators all they need to know.

“You will learn how to apply for a license, about the different types of licenses, the number of children you can keep depending on the size of dwelling, and other essential things about the licensing system.”

The cost for the event will be $25. Two participants may share materials for an additional $10.

The workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Child Care Directions satellite office, located at 210 E. 2nd Street in Lumberton.

Pre-payment is required for attendance, and may be done in Robeson or Scotland Counties. Fees are payable by money order or cash.

The Family Child Care Home Manual, a start-up guide and snacks are included with the registration fee.

Child Care Directions, Inc. is a non-profit child care resource and referral agency that was established in 1985.
