The St. Andrews wrestling team has added dates to their 2011-2012 schedule, the university announced this week.

Due to NCAA conflictions, the Knights were not slated to compete in postseason action this season, but the university has been invited to compete in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association postseason tournament.

The NCWA is an association comprised on non-NCAA wrestling teams. The organization was created to house teams that lost NCAA membership due to budget cutbacks and academic and governmental legislation.

With collegiate wrestling becoming more and more limited, the NCWA fills the gap between NCAA wrestling and school club wrestling, providing university wrestling teams a chance to continue wrestling at the highest level.

With their inclusion to the NCWA postseason, the Knights will add a match in late February for a chance to qualify for the event.

St. Andrews will travel to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., for the postseason qualifier, taking on the Flames and other regional institutions for a chance at the national event.

The Knights will be permitted to enter two wrestlers per weight class in the event, with the top five winners in each weight class qualifying for the NCWA tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla. The NCWA National Tournament will begin on March 8 and run through March 10.

St. Andrews will continue their regularly scheduled matches, returning to action on Jan. 10 in Pembroke, N.C., for the “War of 74” against the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

The Knights will then travel to Hampton, Va., for the 2012 Virginia Duals before hosting back-to-back home contests against Spartanburg Methodist College on Jan. 17 and King College on Jan. 18.

St. Andrews’ final home match of the season with will be a tri-match against East Tennessee State, William & Mary and Truett-McConnell College on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m., at Harris Court.
