The Bulldogs (9-3, 6-0) won their seventh straight and have not lost since November.
Grooms shot 9-of-14 and was 4-for-4 from 3-point distance, but the Knights (3-10, 1-6) still dropped their fourth consecutive game.
BC was 58.5 percent from the floor, 57.1 percent from behind the arc and 73.7 percent from the free throw line. SAPC shot 41.4 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from long range and 65 percent at the charity stripe.
Barton led from start to finish as six Bulldogs reached double figures. Junior Aaron Suggs paced the visitors with 17 points, senior David King bucketed 16, sophomore Greg Mammel provided 14, sophomore Mike Flowers and junior Eddie Kershaw each tallied 13, and junior L.J. Dunn chipped in with 11.
Barton built a 16-point cushion, 28-12, in the first 10 minutes and maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. The two teams played evenly over the final 30 minutes, with the Bulldogs matching every St. Andrews rally attempt, coasting to the 17-point victory.
A quartet of Knights scored in double figures, including 14 by sophomore Zack Garst, 12 by senior Joseph Gripper and 10 by Fenderbosch. Gripper was two rebounds short of a double-double with a team-high eight boards.
Senior point guard Charles Phillips handed out a game-high nine assists without committing a turnover. Phillips' nine helpers ties his career high.
St. Andrews entertains Anderson University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Women
Freshman Septembra LeSane posted her first collegiate double-double for host St. Andrews Presbyterian College, but all 10 Lady Bulldogs scored in a 73-53 Conference Carolinas women’s basketball victory for league-leading Barton College Wednesday evening at Harris Court.
Senior Sara Fleming scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs – who improved to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in the league -- to their third straight victory. LeSane had season highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Knights, who maintain 1-10 overall and 0-7 league ledgers.
The Bulldogs made their first five shots of the game to take a quick 10-0 advantage. Barton increased its lead to 29-9 on a couple made free throws by freshman Jannetta Robinson, but St. Andrews was able to cut the deficit to 13 points at halftime behind a pair of 3-pointers by freshman Melissa Freeman and junior Jaquese Smith in the final minute.
Smith netted all of her season-high 12 points in the first half to lead all scorers into the locker room.
Barton maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the second half and cruised to the 20-point victory by shooting 48.3 percent (29-of-60) in the game, compared to 26.3 percent (20-of-76) by SAPC. BC held a 52-44 edge on the glass but committed more turnovers, 26-18.
Bulldog junior Esty Flores, who averages 24 points per game, was held to 11 points but dished out a game-high seven assists, helping all 10 Barton players tally at least one point. Senior Anita Fenner and freshman Erica Cisneros both cashed in nine points. Robinson added eight, and sophomore Jamila Johnson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Smith and junior Kayla Hay corralled six rebounds apiece for St. Andrews. LeSane and Hay each had four steals. All eight Knights scored, with Hay adding six points.
St. Andrews hosts Anderson University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
