With the holidays right around the corner, Scotland County athletics will take a break before starting up again next month. Here’s a look ahead at what’s in store for Scotland County sports when they return from winter break:

SHS Basketball

The Scotland High School ninth grade basketball team will take in a pair of games in the second week of January. The men’s and women’s team will hit the road for two contests when they return to action, traveling to Lumberton on Jan. 9 and to Hoke on Jan. 12. Women’s games begin at 4: 30 p.m., with the men’s games to follow.

The junior varsity teams will split between home and away contests their first week back, traveling to Terry Sanford on Jan. 4 for a road game. The men’s and women’s teams will host Purnell Swett on Jan. 6 for the program’s first conference games of the season. Games will begin at 5 p.m. for the women’s contests, with the men’s games to follow.

The varsity Scots will make their way to Little River, S.C., for their annual Christ Tournament. Both the men’s and women’s teams will compete in the Shootout by the Sea Christmas Tournament, taking on the rest of the eight-team field for the tournament title.

The men’s team will compete against Summerville (S.C.), Covenent Day (S.C.), Woodmont (S.C.), Clover (S.C.), Nation Ford (S.C.), North Myrtle Beach High (S.C.) and Hoggard beginning on Dec. 21. The three-day tournament will conclude on Dec. 23.

The Lady Scots will compete against Marlboro, Clover (S.C.), South Florence (S.C.), Sumter (S.C.), Nation Ford (S.C.), South Pointe (S.C.) and North Myrtle Beach (S.C.).

The Scots will return to action at home on Jan. 4 when they host Terry Sanford for a 6 p.m. start time.

Wrestling

The Scots’ wrestling team will continue their season through the winter break, wrapping up a tournament today at Athens Drive today.

Scotland will travel to North Davidson on Dec. 22, competing in a two-day event, before closing the year at Chapel Hill High on Dec. 28.

The Scots’ first match of January will be held at Purnell Swett, as Scotland takes on the Rams in their first conference contest of the season.

SAPC Events

The Knights men’s basketball team will compete in three games after the holiday break, returning to action on Friday, Dec. 30, at home against the Virginia University of Lynchburg at 7 p.m.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will open up Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday, Jan. 3, against Pfeiffer University, with their second conference contest scheduled against Queens University on Jan. 5 at Harris Court. The women’s contest will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the men’s games to follow at 7:30 p.m.

The St. Andrews wrestling team will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 10, traveling to UNCP for a dual match at 7 p.m. in Pembroke, N.C.
