The monthly publication goes to all 50 states, Canada and other countries throughout the world.
The Journal ran its 2008 Borrow A Trainer essay contest with the winner, Kim Wolfe of Herndon, Penn., receiving a two-day training session with an AQHA professional horseman who has participated with the Journal’s “Borrow A Trainer” lesson series.
The trainer turned out to be Wennberg, a trainer with more than 25 years of experience. Her western teams at St. Andrews have won three consecutive regional championships and finished fourth in the nation during the 2008 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association finals in Burbank, Calif.
Wennberg has been contributing to the Journal’s “Borrow A Trainer” lesson series for several years. She gave the training session to Wolfe in October with a photographer, Christine Hamilton, in tow.
“I had a blast,” said Wennberg. “Our equestrian center and our horses made it all happen.”
“I entered this contest because I want to learn,” said Wolfe in the article. “I want to go to the top as a rider, in the right way, rather than learning the wrong way and having to unlearn the bad habits.”
Few trainers exceed the credentials Wennberg brought to the training session. She has been an international judge for the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) and National Reining Horse Association for 22 years. She has organized, instructed and demonstrated at clinics and seminars throughout the country.
Wennberg was featured in the AQHA video “Hunter Under Saddle” and created the instructional video “World Champion Western Horsemanship”.
Three of the best St. Andrews western horses were used in the training – Wilee Stuff, Gotta Lotta Chex, and Sailing to T Juana.
The American Quarter Horse Association seeks to ensure the continuance of the American Quarter Horse, the greatest cattle roundup and trail riding horse in history. The association has registered more than 5 million horses and serves more than 350,000 members worldwide.
