Incumbent Laurinburg Councilman Curtis Leak is the lone filer so far this week.
Leak filed Monday to represent District 1. He could not be reached for comment at presstime.
The retired educator and coach is seeking his ninth term on city council. He served on council from 1987 to 1989; and from 1995 to the present. He ran unopposed in 2007.
The Laurinburg native was honored as Man of the Year at the Scotland County NAACP Youth Council in 2009.
He is the first candidate to file since filing began on July 25.
Also seeking office is Councilman Tommy Parker, who has filed for mayor. He is the only candidate to file for that office to date.
District 2 City Council Member Joy Ellison is seeking a full-term on council. Ellison will be challenged by Desiree Block and Mary Jo Adams.
Filing will end at noon on Aug. 12.
