William D. “Buddy” Robertson, Sr.

William D. “Buddy” Robertson, Sr. of Laurinburg, born Jan. 27, 1922, died Jan. 7, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eula Guest Robertson, daughters Donna Dineen and husband Jeff, Patricia Crawford and Paul, son David Robertson, Jr. and Kim and grandchildren Cole and Kenzie.

He was predeceased by his parents Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Robertson Sr., brothers J.A. Robertson, Jr. and Warren W. Robertson.

There will be a private graveside service at Mary Love Cemetery in Hamlet at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009.

Buddy graduated from Kings College in Charlotte and began a successful career in the mortgage banking industry in 1947. He amassed throughout his career a number of honors including the 35 year SC Bankers Club, positions as president and director of Charlotte Mortgage Bankers, secretary of Charlotte Home Builders of the Carolinas, and V.P. of Mortgage Bankers of the Carolinas. He retired in 1984 from Bankers Mortgage Corporation after 36 years of faithful service.

He was a devoted member of the Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, where he served as a deacon, finance committee, stewardship committee, and VP of the elective class; he joined the First Presbyterian Church of Florence, S.C. after a move in 1977; and joined the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church after a move in 1995.

Buddy was an avid saltwater fisherman and just as enthusiastic about growing his yearly crop of tomatoes.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the Hospice Care of Scotland County and their entire staff.

Lacy Hunt, Jr.

Lacy Hunt, Jr. 71, of Bridgewater, N. H. died Monday, Jan. 5, 2008 at Speare Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Fairmont, the son of Lacy and Fronie Hammonds Hunt. He grew up and was educated in North Carolina. In 1960, he moved to Huntington, Long Island, N. Y., where he resided until moving to New Hampshire in 2004.

Mr. Hunt did upholstery work. While in New York he owned and operated L & B Auto Tops, and since residing in New Hampshire he operated Lacy Hunt Upholstery. Mr. Hunt specialized in upholstery for boats and furniture. In his free time, Mr. Hunt enjoyed tinkering on old cars. He was a member of the local antique car club and participated in their outings and gatherings.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Kolomick Hunt of Bridgewater, N.H.; five sons, Kenneth, Keith, Robert, and Brently Hunt all of Florida, and Lacy Hunt III of Bridgewater, N.H.; six grandchildren: Robbie, Krystal, Kenneth, Kevin, Ryan and Joseph; two brothers: Layton Hunt of Westburg, Long Island, N.Y. and Crayton Hunt of Huntington, Long Island, N.Y.; and Mae Balkie of Bayville, Long Island, N.Y.

In 2008 he was predeceased by one son, Lee Hunt.

Services-Calling hours will be Friday, Jan, 9, 2009 at the Emmons Funeral Home, 115 South Main St., Bristol, N.H.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 from 12-1 p.m. followed by funeral services at the Richard Boles Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to either the American Cancer Society, 360 Route 101, Unit 501, Bedford, N.H. 03110 or the American Heart Association, 20 Merrimack Street, Suite 1, Manchester, N.H. 03101-2244.

Don Jackson Batten

Don Jackson Batten, 62, of Gibson died Wednesday, Jan. 7 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Don was born Nov. 1, 1946, in Dillon County, S.C., a son of the late Robert Jackson and Helen Curtis Batten.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Caulder Batten of the home; a son, Don J. Batten, Jr. and friend Linda of Rockingham; a stepson, Lance Cole of Gibson; a stepdaughter, Teresa Cole; a brother, Billy Batten and wife Lorraine of Gibson; and three grandchildren: Jackson Batten, Melvin Harding and Earl Harding, Jr.

Don served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years as a gunner’s mate. He was employed by LSI in Fayetteville, maintaining military vehicles which led him to enjoy working on his own cars. Don was a very loving and unique person and received great joy from helping others.

No services are scheduled at this time. The family will receive friends at their home.

Nancy V. Gibson

Mrs. Nancy V. Gibson, 95, of 5011 Main St., Gibson, died Wednesday at Scotland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church in McColl, S.C. The Rev. Anna K. Maynor will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors are one sister, Joyce (Calvin) Miller of Baltimore, Md.; and caretakers Annie M. Bostic and James R. McLean.

Ms. Trinka Tyson, 44, of 113 Jones Ave., Rockingham, formerly of Laurinburg, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at Chesterfield General Hospital in Chesterfield, S.C. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Laurel Hill First Baptist Church in Laurel Hill. The Rev. Michael Webber will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Laurinburg. Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 from 6 to 7 p.m. at McPhatter Funeral Home in Laurel Hill.

Survivors are one son, David Calvin Ruth of Rockingham.
