According to Lt. Chris Young, police believe the incident started when two young men assaulted James Kelvin Murphy. This left Murphy laying on the ground.
In retaliation, a different individual stabbed two females, according to Young. The victims were Brittany McLean, 18 and a 17-year old resident of Laurinburg.
McLean and the the other stabbing victim where transported to Scotland Memorial Hospital before police arrived.
When police arrived, they found Murphy still on the ground. He initially refused medical attention, but later agreed to be taken to the hospital and was admitted to Scotland Memorial.
Murphy was transported to Chapel Hill for head trauma. McLean was treated for a collapsed lung. The police did not have any information on the current condition of either Murphy or McLean. The 17-year old was treated an released.
Rashida Marcella Henderson, 31, has been accused of the stabbings. She was arrested that night and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Henderson, who lives on Phritz Street, was placed in Scotland County jail under a $30,000 secured bond.
Henderson was the person who described to officers the two men who allegedly assaulted Murphy.
Sylvester Linwood Stewart, Jr., 21, and a 17-year old male from Roanoke Rabids, N.C., were both charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Stewart, of Pine St. in Hamlet, and the 17-year old were each processed and released into parental custody.
The report for the assault on Murphy also indicated that a weapon was confiscated. It did not indicate who had the weapon, which was a black .38 caliber revolver.
The Laurinburg Exchange does not print the names of juveniles linked crimes.
