Scotland Health Care System will be holding its annual community meeting on Jan 8. at the W.R. Dulin Conference Center at 6 p.m.

"Every year, the board chooses to host a community meeting where the key leaders of the board take time to talk to the community," President and CEO Greg Wood said. "Its primarily a reporting of the accomplishments of the year ending."

Woods said it is also a chance to discuss plans for the coming year and any upcoming challenges.

The community meeting grew out of an official requirement to conduct such a meeting. However, the board has continued to conduct the yearly meeting because the board feels they owe it to the community, according to Wood.

The meeting will begin at 6 with a period for socializing.

According to Wood, this was started three years ago to let the public get to meet the board members of the hospital.

Hors d'oeuvres will also be served.

After this, several board members will speak about the various accomplishments and challenges the health care system faces.

Afterwards, the board will listen to concerns of people in the community.

"We encourage people to come out and feel proud about their hospital system," Wood said.

He described the community meeting as a way for the health care system to be open and transparent.
