LAURINBURG — Five more candidates filed for election as the filing period came to a close on Friday.

Filing for the Laurinburg City Council at-large seat was Roy Guinn, a graduate of the Scotland High School class of 1970, and Rhema Bible College class of 1994.

Guinn is currently the utilities director for the city of Raeford and is a member of the New Beginnings Christian Ministry in Hamlet, where he assists in the Helps Department.

“I want to be the voice for the citizens of Laurinburg. I will work with the elected officials but putting the citizens first in the great city. With my background in local government and displaying common sense and making the elected officials decisions transparent. We can build a successful city to live in and raise our families in. Together with everyone’s help, we can make Laurinburg a thriving city,” Guinn said, how worked for the city of Laurinburg for 20 years.

Incumbent Dee Hammond and James Garby are seeking the at-large council seat.

Also filing for election to the Laurinburg City Council is George Medlock in District 2 seat.

He currently works with the Department of Public Safety as a correctional officer.

“I’m seeking office to be a voice of our community in District 2,” Medlock said. “I have noticed since going to some of the meetings that a lot of citizens are speaking out and its seems like a lot of their voices and concerns have been ignored.

“If elected, I would be more open and willing to listen to constituents in my district and take in every legitimate argument, concern or complaint and make adjustments accordingly.”

Medlock is a former paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, and I spent 10 years in the NC National Guard.

He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a bachelor’s degree in math and computer science. He also spent three years as a math teacher.

The campaign for District 2 also includes incumbent Drew Williamson and challengers Brian Gainey and Frank Evans.

Also filing on Friday were Adam Liles for town of Gibson town Commissioner, current East Laurinburg Mayor Wayne Caulder has filed for East Laurinburg town Commissioner, incumbent Milton Farmer for mayor of Wagram, and Myra Tyndall for a town commissioner seat in Gibson.

Liles, Caulder, Farmer and Tyndall did not provide information to The Laurinburg Exchange.
