LAURINBURG — The Lady Scots soccer team is still searching for its first win of the season after falling to conference rival Purnell Swett on Friday, 2-0.

The Lady Scots started the game off strong with good ball movement, but Purnell freshman Abi Lowry managed to find the net to put the Lady Rams up 1-0. The Lady Scots had their opportunities to score, but couldn’t get the ball past Purnell’s Monica Lowry who ended the game with six saves.

All hope wasn’t lost as the Lady Scots went into halftime down 1-0. The second half saw the Lady Scots hold Purnell scoreless until the final 15 minutes.

The relentless attack of the Purnell offense finally paid off as A. Lowry scored her second goal of the game launching the ball just over senior goalie Anna Griswold’s outstretched arms.

The Lady Scots had trouble getting the ball onto their side of the field in the second half as Purnell stepped up their defensive play as well. With the final minutes ticking off the clock the Lady Scots had a shot at the goal to get within one, but M. Lowry plucked the ball out of the air.

With the loss, the Lady Scots move to 0-3-2 overall and 0-1 in SEC play while Purnell improves to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in SEC play.

Both SEC games are scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. with the JV teams playing first. Thursday’s match against Seventy-First will start at 5:30 p.m.
