LAURINBURG — The late burst of winter weather forced all of Scotland High School’s spring sports teams to cancel all of Wednesdays games and matches.
Temperatures will be slightly warmer on Thursday with highs in the mid-50s but once the sun goes down the thermostat will dip into the mid-20s making for a chilly evening of sports.
Scotland currently has a double-header varsity and JV baseball game, soccer and tennis matches and the year’s first track meet scheduled for this afternoon. Baseball will host Anson at 4:30 p.m.; tennis will travel to Hoke at 4 p.m.; soccer will travel to Jack Britt for a 5:30 p.m. game and track is scheduled to compete in a tri-meet with Pinecrest and Lumberton in Southern Pines at 4 p.m.
Depending on the weather, those games and matches could be canceled and rescheduled for a later date.
Friday will be slightly warmer as the temperatures crawl back into the lower-60s before dropping into the 40s at night. The Lady Scots have a home soccer match against Purnell Swett at 5:15 p.m. and the softball team will host Southern Lee at 7 p.m.
Wednesdays games that were canceled due to the cold weather are as follows:
Baseball
The Fighting Scots baseball team’s game against Harnett Central, no make-up date has been announced.
Soccer
The Lady Scots conference game against Purnell Swett that was scheduled for Wednesday was rescheduled to Friday, March 17 at 5:15 p.m.
Tennis
The Fighting Scots tennis team had two matches canceled due to the cold, windy weather. The team’s match against Pinecrest, which was supposed to be played on Tuesday, has been moved to March 28. The Scots match against Jack Britt that was scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled and no make-up date has been announced.
