LAURINBURG — There are a fair number of Scotland High School graduates that go on to play some level of college athletics after they leave Laurinburg. Below are two Scotland High School grads, one from the Class of 2014 and the other from the Class of 2015, that are excelling in their chosen sports.
2015 Scotland High School graduate Destiny Campbell
A 2015 SHS graduate Destiny Campbell currently plays for Cape Fear Community College. Campbell is a forward for the Lady Sea Devils and recently made history with the school’s first triple double.
Lasts week, Campbell helped her team defeated Bryant & Stratton College, 77-48 by recording a triple double — with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 11 blocks.
The Lady Sea Devils head coach Drake had nothing but praise for both Campbell earning the first triple-double in school history. Drake was ecstatic that she rose to the occasion defensively, recording just one foul in route to 11 blocks.
“Just impressive all the way around,” Drake said in a news release from Cape Fear CC. “I challenged her to sit down and play [defense].”
The win improves Cape Fear CC to 23-4 on the season, and 15-2 in conference play.
2014 SHS graduate Dylan Ward
A 2014 graduate Dylan Ward started his collegiate baseball career at Wingate University before transferring to Barton College in Wilson. As a freshman at Barton, Ward appeared in 12 games for the Bulldogs and posted a 9-2 overall record with an 2.17 ERA and 72 strikeouts over 87 innings pitched.
For his efforts, Ward was a two-time Conference Carolinas Baseball Pitcher of the Week, earned First-Team Conference Carolinas All-Conference honors, named First Team NCBWA All-Southeast Region, First Team D2CCA All-Southeast Region First Team and First Team ABCA/Rawlings All-Southeast Region First Team.
This season, Ward has pitched five games and is sporting a 3-1 record in 28 innings pitched. Ward has a 4.18 ERA and 27 strikeouts.
Barton currently has a 14-7 overall record and is 1-5 in conference play.
