LAURINBURG — The Scots have a busy week ahead as the calendar flips to October and fall sets in. Over the next few weeks the teams will be wrapping up their regular seasons and gearing up for conference tournaments and the playoffs.
The Lady Scots volleyball team had their final non-conference match on Monday evening at Terry Sanford. Tonight they will host Pinecrest. The Patriots (4-2) are in second place in the SEC behind Richmond (6-0) while the Scots are tied for third place with Hoke as both school sport a 3-3 SEC record. Purnell Swett is in fourth at 2-4 and Lumberton is a win-less 0-6.
The week of SEC play continues on Thursday, Oct. 6 as the Scots host Hoke County at 5 p.m. Next week, the Lady Scots finish their SEC schedule with a trip to Lumberton on Oct. 11 before hosting Richmond on Oct. 13. The SEC volleyball tournament will begin on Monday, Oct. 17, brackets, a tournament location and times have not been released yet.
The Fighting Scots soccer team was back on the pitch Monday in a make-up game at Pinecrest. The Scots are on the road again Wednesday, Oct. 5 against Purnell Swett. That match is set to begin at 5:15 p.m. The Scots then have a make-up game against rival Richmond County on Thursday, Oct. 6 at Richmond that is also a 5:15 p.m. start.
The Fighting Scots are currently tied for second place in the SEC at 2-1 with Lumberton. Richmond remained undefeated at 3-0 to lead the conference. Hoke County and Pinecrest are tied for third at 2-2 and Purnell is still searching for their first SEC win at 0-5.
With two weeks until their SEC tournament, the Scots have a chance to move into the upper part of the conference before Oct. 24. The brackets, locations and times have not been released yet, but as soon as they are the information will appear in the paper.
The Lady Scots tennis team will wrap up their regular season with matches against Lumberton, Hoke and Richmond. The team will have one make-up match next Monday against Hoke before starting the SEC tournament on Oct. 11.
Tennis opens its week traveling to Lumberton before hosting Richmond on Thursday, Oct. 6 both matches have 4 p.m. start times. Thursday will also be Senior Night for the Lady Scots four seniors.
The Lady Scots are in third place in the SEC at 4-3 with Pinecrest leading the conference at 7-0 followed by Richmond at 5-1. Lumberton is in fourth place at 2-5 followed by Hoke County and Purnell Swett.
The SEC tennis tournament will be held at Pinecrest on Oct. 11 with matches beginning at 1 p.m. Match details have not been released yet.
The Fighting Scots football team is back in action this Friday night hosting Purnell Swett to open their SEC schedule. Kick off will be 7:30 p.m.
