LAURINBURG — St. Andrews University head wrestling coach Joe Baranik will host the Knights Wrestling Academy for area kids from first to 12th grade starting next month.

The SAU wrestling team will assist in helping the club members improve their skills and act as workout partners, and all skill levels and experience are welcome.

The academy will take place every Monday starting Oct. 19 with an end date of Dec. 21. The sessions begin at 6 p.m. and end at 7:30.

The cost is $50 per session. Payment is by check, which can be made out to Knights Wrestling Club.

County to host tennis tourney

LAURINBURG — The Scotland County Tennis Center in Laurinburg is set to host the 2015 Chris McLean Memorial Junior Futures Tennis Tournament Oct. 9-11.

The tournament, conducted by the Scotland County Tennis Association, is a USTA sanctioned tournament. The following brackets will be played: boys and girls singles 8 and under, 10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under, 16 and under, and 18 and under.

Entry fee is $28 for 12-18 year olds, $21 for 10 year olds, and $16 for 8 and under. The fee includes a T-shirt, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, Oct. 10, trophies for bracket champions, finalists and consolation winners, and refreshments.

Play is expected to start Oct. 10 for all brackets. Entry deadline is Oct. 5, and all entrants must be current USTA card holders.
