Scotland stands alone at No. 5 in AP poll

LAURINBURG — The Fighting Scots pulled ahead by seven votes this week to regain the No. 5 spot in this week’s Associated Press state high school football poll.

The Scots have been slated at No. 5 for the last six weeks and surpassed Wilmington Hoggard for the No. 5 position by just seven votes. Scotland is one of only three one-loss teams to make the AP Top 10 as the regular season comes to a close.

Wake Forest earned 10 first-place votes to remain a top the 4A standings followed by No. 2 Mallard Creek, a team that earned three first-place votes. Heritage held tight to the No. 3 spot just ahead of No. 4 West Forsyth.

Charlotte Harding dropped to No. 8 as Kernersville Glenn jumped two spots fro No. 9 to No. 7. Greensboro Page tumbled for a second straight week down to No. 9.

Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons held on to the No. 10 spot after making its AP Top 10 debut last week sporting a 10-0 record.

The Associated Press state high school football poll for the week of Oct. 30, as voted upon by a statewide panel of prep sports writers, will be released weekly until the end of the regular season
