Fighting Scots tabbed at No. 6 in first AP Poll

LAURINBURG — In the first Associated Press poll of the 2017 season the No. 1 ranking belongs to Wake Forest — the defending 4AA State Champions.

Despite a week one loss to No. 2 Mallard Creek, the Fighting Scots didn’t fall far from the No. 1 ranking they ended last season with. The Scots landed at No. 6 with their 1-1 record behind five undefeated teams. Wake Forest earned nine first place votes while Mallard Creek earned two.

West Forsyth found itself at No. 3 followed by the Scots next opponent No. 4 West Mecklenburg followed by No. 5 Wake Forest Heritage.

The only other two teams that made the Top 10 list were Greensboro Page and East Forsyth, a team that fell to Charlotte Catholic in the third round of last year’s 4A state playoffs.

The Scots SAC-8 rival cracked the Top 10 as undefeated Pinecrest found themselves in a tie with East Forsyth for No. 10.
