LAURINBURG — The Fighting Scots soccer team is riding a two-game win streak after edging Purnell Swett on Wednesday.

The Scots found themselves down 2-0 to the Rams after goals by Purnell senior Vidal Velasquez sailed past Scots goalie Aubrey Graham.

Scots striker Luis Caulderon-Flores tied the game with two goals of his own in the first half. The 2-2 halftime score didn’t last long in the second half as Scots senior Tripp Wells scored a goal early on to lift the Scots over the Rams.

“We went down 2-0 early on a couple of tough referee decisions but we fought back with two goals by Luis Flores and a goal early in the second half from Tripp Wells. It was a great result, the boys played hard and fought well,” Scots head coach Danny Gallagher told WLNC.

The game-winning goal by Wells in second half and continued strong defense by the Scots held off Rams.

With the win, the Scots move to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play while Purnell moves to 2-2-2 and 0-2 in SAC-8 play.

The Scots continue their grueling three-games a week schedule after the Labor Day holiday. On Tuesday, the Scots host a varsity only match against West Columbus at 6 p.m. The Scots remain at home on Wednesday as the host Hoke at 5:15 p.m. and finish the week on the road against East Bladen on Thursday at 5 p.m.
