NCHSAA third round 4A baseball, softball playoffs

LAURINBURG — The Southeastern conference has three teams still competing for a chance to advance to the 4A state baseball and softball tournament.

No. 9 Pinecrest is the remaining SEC baseball team in the 4A East after defeating No. 7 Leesville Road, 2-1 on Friday. The Patriots will host No. 16 Fuquay-Varina tonight at 6 p.m. in Southern Pines.

Winners from tonight’s game will advance to the fourth round on Friday, May 19 with the regionals to follow on May 23 and the 4A state baseball chamionship on June 2-3.

On the softball diamond, the unlikely No. 22 seeded Hoke County Lady Bucks upended No. 9 Lumberton, 7-3 on Friday to advance to the third round. Hoke County will travel to Cape Fear tonight at 6 p.m. to take on the No. 1 Lady Colts. On the opposite side of the bracket, No. 2 Richmond defeated No. 14 Providence, 6-3 and will host No. 11 Davie tonight at 7 p.m.

The fourth round of the 4A softball tournament will be held on Friday, May 19 followed by the regionals on May 23 and the 4A state softball championship on June 2.
