MISENHEIMER — The St. Andrews University baseball team edged non-conference Pfeiffer University 8-6 on the road earlier this week. The Knights stormed to an 8-0 lead before the Falcons came back to make things interesting. St. Andrews managed to hang on to the win.

St. Andrews starting pitcher freshman Davis O’Brien (4-3) pitched six stellar innings allowing one run off four hits with one walk and six strikeouts to pick up his fourth win of the season. O’Brien’s win ties him for most wins and he is now in third place with 35 strikeouts for the year.

The Knights outhit the Falcons 12-8 courtesy of a three-hit game from freshman outfielders Mark Perkins, who hit two home runs in the win that drove in three runs. Perkins now has three home runs this season for the Knights and is hitting .323. Senior Justin Williams went 2-for-3 driving in two runs on back-to-back RBI singles. St. Andrews had a total of seven players record hits.

Junior relievers Austin Sisley and Zach Saylor finished the game for O’Brien with Sisley allowing two runs off two hits. Saylor bent, but did not break in the ninth inning allowing three runs before striking out Pfeiffer’s Zach Scudder, who had previously homered twice, with runners on base to end the game.

The Knights improve to 21-27 with their second win over Pfeiffer (19-23) this season.

St. Andrews (21-27) will now remain on the road to face conference foe Milligan College (Tenn.) inh a three-game series beginning tonight a 7 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m..
