City puts hold on military option

LAURINBURG — The Laurinburg City Council passed on Tuesday the first of two votes required to rescind an ordinance passed last year allowing military training facilities by conditional use permit on property zoned industrial.The motion to rescind that ordinance was made by council member J.D. Willis after a public hearing in which no one offered comment, with a second from council member Curtis Leak. Though council agreed that the matter should be revisited in an overhaul of the city’s unified development ordinance expected to be completed this year, the motion passed by a vote of 3-2, with Willis, Leak, and Dee Hammond for and Drew Williamson and Mary Jo Adams against.
