Laurinburg police are investigating a weekend shooting that was likely drug-related.
Travis Pemberton, 27, of 113 Alder Road, was shot outside of his home at around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Although he was shot in the leg, the groin area, and on the left side of his head, the bullet did not penetrate his skull, and Pemberton was alert when transported to Scotland Memorial Hospital, according to Lt. Marc Godwin of the Laurinburg Police Department. Pemberton was later flown to an area medical center.
When interrogated about the identity of his assailants, Pemberton would only say that the altercation was related to a drug transaction, and that three individuals came to his home while he was outside.
“Pemberton spoke with the subjects for approximately 30 minutes before the incident occurred but claims he does not know who they are,” Godwin said.
Along with an undisclosed amount of cash and a handgun, police detectives located a large amount of marijuana inside Pemberton’s apartment following the incident.
After the shooting, the assailents fled the area, officials said.
