A driver attempted to turn Ned’s Pawn Shop into a drive-through , according to police.
Around 5:18 a.m. Wednesday, Laurinburg police responded to an alarm at the store, located on South Main Street. Police say its appeared that vehicle had driven into the front door, dislodging it from the storefront and causing extensive damage.
The car’s progress was impeded by a security gate inside the store, officials said.
A surveillance video shows the driver reverse the vehicle and re-approach the gate in an apparent attempt to break through it. The vehicle then left the scene without anyone getting out.
Police Lt. Marc Godwin called the incident an obvious attempt to break into the shop. The make and model of the car could not be determined from video footage, but one of its side mirrors was recovered from the scene.
“If anybody knows of any small silver vehicles with damage to the front and a missing side mirror, they should report it to police,” Godwin said.
Ned’s proprietors reported nothing stolen, but damage to the front door is estimated at $9,000.
