A suspect has been charged after a high speed chase in Laurinburg on Monday stemming from a bank robbery in South Carolina, police say.
Rodney Lane Bartshe, 30, of Greensboro, was charged with speeding to elude arrest, failure to stop for blue light/siren, careless and reckless driving, and driving while license revoked, according to Lt. Cliff Sessoms of the Laurinburg Police Department.
Bartshe allegedly stole more than $5,000 from Carolina Bank in Bennettsville, S.C. on Monday morning. Spotted in McColl, S.C. following the robbery, he was pursued by McColl authorities into Scotland County, where the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office took up the pursuit.
After a chase northbound on Main Street reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, Bartshe lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a telephone pole outside the Division of Workforce Solutions office on North Main Street and was taken into custody. A nearby pedestrian injured by debris from the crash was treated at Scotland Memorial Hospital and has been released.
Bartshe was placed in the Scotland County jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
