Mary Katherine Murphy Staff reporter ^ The Laurinburg Police Department is continuing to investigate last year’s shooting death of convenience store clerk Yashin Geedi, and have put forth a $5,000 reward for information in the case. Geedi, a 30-year-old native of Kosovo, was shot on the evening of Nov. 29 behind #1 Convenience Store. Geedi worked at the store, located at the intersection of North Main Street and Produce Market Road. “We believe that he was either walking home to the house behind the store, or walking to another store located on Lee’s Mill and Produce Market,” said Detective Rodney Tucker, the case’s lead investigator. “He was shot twice behind the store. The store was locked and he had the money on him from the store and cash in his wallet when we got there.” Officials say that they are very close to solving the case, and are seeking information to help fully explain the homicide. “We hope that this sum of money will help bring someone forward. Basically what we’re looking for is any information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murder,” said Lt. Marc Godwin of the Laurinburg Police Department. Although Geedi was killed almost six months ago, police have only recently secured funds from the state to offer a reward. “I actually found out about it from another investigator from another agenOVERSET FOLLOWS:cy - the chief wrote the letter about a month ago and we just got the letter back from the attorney general’s office,” Tucker said. “If we have a homicide today, we can’t call them and say, can we get $5,000. Usually, you go through the process of the investigation and then if you get where the leads have gone cold and the case has gone cold, then they will consider offering the reward.” Godwin said that those with information will hopefully be able to corroborate the information that police have already collected, as well as providing new information to fill in the gaps. “We do have information on the case, but we need a few pieces to the puzzle that we don’t have and we’re hoping to get this from the community,” he said. One of many victims in Laurinburg shootings last year, Geedi’s homicide is not the only one that police are investigating. “We’re definitely looking into other murders, handling them with a reward and in other ways,” Godwin said. “We’re constantly looking for ways to solve these crimes, and this is just another method to go forward with.” Those with information about the shooting should call the Laurinburg Police Department at 291-1751, the N.C.
