A Laurinburg native is one of five top graduates to serve as 2011-2013 State Policy Fellows.
Francinia D. McKeithan was selected by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in coordination with the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative
She is one of the newly appointed Fellows and will work for two years as a research and policy analyst at the Mississippi Economic Policy Center in Jackson, Mississippi.
The State Policy Fellowship Program seeks to enhance the diversity of voices engaged in state-level fiscal policy debates affecting low- and moderate-income people. The highly competitive program has attracted more than 600 applicants in its first two years of existence.
McKeithan was awarded Master of Public Administration and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and formerly served as a Research Associate for the university in the Vice Chancellor’s Office for Research and Economic Development.
Prior to that role, she held internship positions at the South African Council of Churches’ Parliament Office and the Women’s Rights and Education departments of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees in Washington, DC. McKeithan also completed undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with degrees in African and African American Studies, Sociology, and Social and Economic Justice.
She graduated from Scotland High School in 2004 and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Marguerite McKeithan of Laurinburg.
